Monica Hemming–Rorvik was the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) Assistant Film Festival Manager where, for ten years, she curated documentary and short films and headed the industry programme which grew Talent Campus Durban and Durban FilmMart programes.
She also curated exhibitions of African film for projects such as the launch of the African Union and the World Social Forum. She regularly helped promote South African and African content and its industry globally including collaborating on the first Etisal meeting (“meeting place”) at Luxor Africa Film Festival.
She is a reader for project selection for the Durban FilmMart and has done the same for the Hot Docs Blue Ice Grant programme. Interests in new media, transmedia, animation and the changing distribution field and her strong industry relationships across most film sectors’ industry stakeholders, such as studios, film-makers, training institutions, parastatals, and media, strengthens her work promoting film and media at Cape Town and Western Cape’s Tourism Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, Wesgro. There she assists local and international film companies looking to do production and advises on project packaging and investment. She promotes international and coproduction activities and the exemplary locations, services and studios of the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape region.
